About

Hello!

Just a mom, blogging like it’s 2008, from the beautiful Annapolis Valley, N.S.

Welcome. Let me start by saying this website has served me in several ways. It started as a blog that allowed me to share my 3 year journey in Japan. Then, it became host to my business, Rachel Lake Photography. Now, I have taken back up blogging about my day to day life as, this time as a mom of 3. I have always enjoyed sharing my life online because I believe in the power of community. I believe that finding people who can relate to your experiences, emotions, and life in general is crucial to your mental health. Nowadays, for some of us, it’s easier to find these people online. Especially when we are years of sleepless nights deep in Motherhood. My goal is that through this blog I can reach like (and maybe not-so-like-) minded individuals and swap stories, and share in the knowledge that we aren’t alone.

So, I’m Rachel. I’m a 35 year old mother of two young boys, and a baby girl. I am currently residing in the Annapolis Valley in Nova Scotia. Here are five random facts about me:

  1. Before settling down and having kids, I enjoyed travelling. I’ve been to (approx) 25 countries (I stopped keeping track and am too lazy to count now), and lived in 4 different countries in 3 different continents. This is due partly because –
  2. I am an army brat. My dad was in the Army, and retired from the Air Force. I tried to join the military myself twice, but both times things didn’t work out. Just when I thought my life wouldn’t involve the military community any longer, my partner joined the Air Force and now I am a military spouse.
  3. I love baking but hate cooking.
  4. I majored in English with a double minor in Psychology and Classical Studies. This may seem random but I think all three of these subjects are rooted in stories.
  5. I read Tarot. Again, I think this is about stories. I think the cards tell a story which can be used as an introspection tool. I picked up my first deck at 15 and it’s played a minor role in my life since then. .. for following along. I hope if you too are sharing online, you will let me know so I can follow your story.

Cheers,

Rachel
