And just like that it’s been almost 6 months, hasn’t it? I simply can’t go back and recap it all, so I’ll bullet point it just so I don’t forget, and then attempt to get back to regularly scheduled programming. Thanks to all our family and friends who made it another great year for us in 2024. It was definitely a challenging year, starting with a hospital stay for the baby, and me injuring my back, and getting pneumonia at the end of the year. But ultimately, as I’ll recap for you, we outdid the negatives with some amazing times.
We finished the summer off with a visit from our niece from Ontario. Hopefully we showed her a Nova Scotia good time. We rode the Harbour Hopper, enjoyed some beaches, including a new to us beach that we LOVED – Carter’s Beach.
We went to the Air Show which was here in our backyard. Super cool, and our niece was still here to enjoy it as well.
We bought a bouncy castle to get us through the final stretch of summer and keep the kids outside. Our neighbours must think we’re crazy and we have had people stop in their cars to shout out to us when we have it up hahah but it has been worth its weight! We have used it for both boys birthdays and any time we needed a break. 10/10 would recommend. We got this one.
My oldest went back to school, and that left me back with only two kids during the day. As such, I was able to make good use of my BOB double stroller and actually get to running after we dropped him off on the bus. Well, it started as walking and I worked my way up. I’ve worked up to 10 km now, and lost 30 lbs in the process. I’m feeling much better.
We went apple picking at Willowbank in the fall with our friends. It was a really nice spot and way better than some of the other more popular farms to visit this time of year. They had a corn maze, petting zoo, bouncy castle, “haunted house” type area. Very great for younger kids.
Each child had a birthday and I now have a 5 year old (who had his first real birthday at a play place with his friends and classmates), a 3 year old, and a 1 year old!
I kept everyone up way past their bedtime and made Matt chauffeur me around so we could see the Northern Lights.
We did Christmas with my dad and step-mom in November at a beautiful AirBNB across the street from Queensland beach. When we got back I got pneumonia.
Then it was real Christmas which we celebrated with my mom and sister and brother-in-law at another beautiful AirBNB in Clam Bay. I got a garmin watch and have taken my obsession with health data to a new level (and this is what helped me level up my running).
It’s now 2025 and we’ve got more snow in the ground than we’ve had since we moved here. We had 2.5 snow days in a row. My oldest got a Student of the Month award at school. The youngest started walking. And our middle is talking better and better every day. We ended the year with an undetermined amount of outside hours due to a new phone on my end that lost track of the time, but if I had to guess I’d estimate between 800-850 hours. We for sure beat last year according to my last registered update (well over 70 hours) so I’m quite proud of us. I’ve decided not to track this year but continue to enjoy as much time outside as possible.
That pretty much takes us to today. No big deal, 6 months fly by! … But I’ll try not to let another half year go by untold. Too many gems in the day to day life with these precious kids.
Since it’s TECHNICALLY still January, I’ll take the last opportunity to say Happy New Year to you all, and wish everyone the best!
Until next time!
