The Red Harbour House

Well, it certainly feels like we are full swing into summer mode already! With another month behind us, May blessed us with some beautiful weather and lovely adventures. In terms of outside time, our goal (as always) was to beat last years numbers. Last May we racked up 93.5 hours and this May we did almost 96… So close to 100!

We were treated to a lovely vacation at an AirBNB called Red Harbour House in Lower Ship Harbour by my father in law who was visiting for a week. It was nice to get out of our house and enjoy the water and just experience a change of pace. We all know the end of winter seems to drag on…

It was a great way to wait out the last of that cooler, rainy spring weather. It was definitely gloomy our first 24 hours there. I was up very early one particularly morning, thanks to the two year old, but that just meant I got to go out with my camera for some moody shots of the water.

Fortunately, after that, the sun came out and we were able to take the boys out on their first kayak ride and also enjoy some time in the hot tub!

I am always the biggest advocate for getting out and doing things with kids, but I will say vacations certainly aren’t as relaxing as they used to be. Fortunately, there wasn’t much for the kids to get into at this AirBNB, so aside from the slippery stairs, it was a fairly safe spot for the children. The boys loved going out on the kayak with us, and although the current was quite strong, it was fun to take them around the little inlet where the house was located. And I got a bit of an arm workout.

Aside from this little adventure, we have the end of school coming up this week. Our eldest only has three more days of pre-primary. He graduated from Pre-School 1 swimming lessons on Friday, and very happily has been advanced to level 3 for the next course! He is so proud of himself. We played hooky from school on Thursday and took him to the ocean to wait out the heat wave and he practiced his swimming all day.

We have a trip to Cape Breton coming up, as well as a camping trip to Kejimkujik National Park, so lots of exciting summer plans!

Thanks for reading and until next time,

– R
