The summer we moved across Canada.

We did it. We moved across the country, from coast to coast. We travelled for 12 days and it was basically my entire personality all summer. I made a little video about it if you wish to check it out, on my Instagram. There is also an entire highlight devoted to it, if you care to take a peek.

I won’t rehash the entire trip, but I will say that the drive went way better than we expected, and by that I mean much less screaming and crying. The kids did SO well. It was such a relief. The highlights of the trip, in my opinion, would be being able to see family we haven’t seen since our first move. We stopped at my grandparent’s and introduced them to their first great-granddaughter. We had breakfast with my aunt. We were able to stop at Matt’s family cottage up north where the kids played with their cousins, went on a boat ride, jumped in the lake. We followed that up with the start of our “classic Canadian” stops. We had McDonald’s breakfast at the giant Nickel in Sudbury.

We also stopped, by accident, at the exact center of Canada in Manitoba. There was a sign there and everything -to prove it see the wonderfully taken selfie below. Haha.

We also stopped in Drumheller, which visually was my most favourite place to drive through. I was obsessed with the landscape. We stopped at the dinosaur museum which was also very cool. Here’s one of my favourite shots taken out the window on our drive through.

We walked the seawall in Vancouver, went to the aquarium. In total, took two ferry rides. one on our first day and one on our last. Our eldest (and Matthew) went down countless hotel waterslides. So many called us crazy for making the drive instead of flying (and I questioned our sanity, too) but I am SO grateful we did it. It was absolutely the trip of a lifetime.

Now we are home, and mostly settled, in our new house. It’s a relief to be here and we are so enjoying it so far. Living in BC truly feels like we are living amongst nature. We have seen salmon swim upstream, we see deer weekly. Our neighbours keep us posted on where the bears are currently, so we haven’t seen one (yet). Our eldest is adjusting to school and our middle is at his first day of pre-school right now, leaving me home with only our youngest. It’s such an amazing adjustment watching the kids make this place their home. I can’t wait to see all that we can make of this place.

Stay tuned!
