After taking this silent portrait of Momma and her baby belly, I’m now a firm believer in the power of the maternity silhouette shot. This beautiful Momma already has two little ones, and a Jack Russell. But between all the running around we managed to find a quiet moment, where she couldĀ take a deep breath and reflect on her last few days carrying her Baby Boy.
Read on for some tips on how to create your own silhouette shot, and to leave your comments.
Some important tips when doing your own silhouette shot:
- Stand in front of the light. In this example, Cassandra is standing in front of a window with sheer curtains.
- Expose for the light in the background – in this case the curtains – to make your body go into shadow. On an iPhone this can be done by clicking the area you want to expose for. So, don’t click on your subject but rather the background.
- In any picture editing program (even Instagram) you can darken your shadows – so play around with the image after it’s captured. I love these images in black and white or sepia tone.
Good luck!
