Fall Farm Visits

Who doesn’t love a few trips to the local farms this time of year? Despite being 40 weeks pregnant, I managed to attend ONE of the classic fall activities – pumpkin picking – despite my reluctance to move from my bed. After birth, we loaded up the mini van and managed another short visit to a different farm with all three kiddos for some outdoor time. Here’s what we got up to for some fall activities in the Annapolis Valley.

Fall Activities in the Annapolis Valley

At the end of September, we went to Spurr Brother’s Farm Market, and picked some apples and pumpkins. They have an adorable shop, as well as a taproom! I was disappointed that I didn’t get to taste the cider that day, but we took home some bottles that I sampled after baby girl’s birth. Very delicious and worth stopping by for some if you are in the area. My favourite was the Strawberry Rhubarb Haskap.

The pumpkin patch was pre-set up for easy pumpkin picking for the kids. They had bails of hay with a wide variety of pumpkins for you to choose from. Further into the farm is the apple trees. Be sure to grab a bag from the staff in the store before you head back to pick the apples. We had gone through the store first but didn’t realize we had to get bags from the staff – I guess we aren’t apple picking pros (yet)! They had several rows of apple trees with the different apples labeled. There was also a playground but that was geared towards older kids and not pre-school/toddler ages, as well as food (kids had ice cream, but we didn’t try anything else) and a sunflower field, and a few adorable set ups for photos.

Just this past weekend, we spent Saturday morning at Dempsey Corner Orchards for their Cider Fest. Matt and I’s first outing with the three kids by ourselves. We planned something short and sweet (and outside!) so we couldn’t fail! This is a much bigger, full working farm. There is a pen with animals the kids can pet, as well as a play area that is much more geared towards younger kids. We met sheep, cows, horses, donkeys, llamas, goats, and of course the farm dog and cats. The cats tried their best to steal our Beaver Tails, which greatly amused the boys. The farm offered wagon rides and had a little cafe and a shop as well. For the Cider Fest they had a few local craft tables set up, as well as food trucks, and live music! I believe the Cider Fest was the last opening day of their season, but we will definitely return next year.

The Valley is such a beautiful place in the fall, and hopefully next year we can explore even more this region has to offer! If you have any recommendation for me, drop them below!
